Counter-Strike::Map Tips 5.5LARGE

Map Tips

Airstrip
Demolition
Don't expect to see any aircraft here on the strip. Instead, expect plenty of guerillas in the mist, as there are plenty of places for enemies to hide. To master the Airstrip, you need only teach yourself the shortcuts from point A to B. The more direct route is taking the underground tunnel, which then splits clearly to either point (you can see clear marking son the wall when you reach the T-intersection).

Tips

* Use the structures to your advantage. Crouch behind doorways and attack enemies who are outside of the buildings.
* Fan out. There are a lot of paths to reach the same point. Instead of traveling as a pack, everyone take a different path and meet in the middle.
* Be quick. This map is deceptively short and Terrorists have an easy time getting to the bomb site. No matter which side you are one, speed is essential.
* There are lots of good hiding places at the bombsite. Use this to your advantage (either team).

Aztec
Demolition
The Aztec ruins are perfect for long-ranged weapons. Leave your submachine guns at home and go for a rifle. There are numerous tiers allowing for snipers to get up high and pick off enemies below. There's not a lot of zig-zag patterns to keep you from the bomb site, but there are plenty of places for ambushes, meaning that you need to be cautious in open areas.

Tips

* Have one team member as designate sniper, getting to higher ground to provide cover for the rest.
* One person needs to be point and should be the only person with a submachine gun or other short-range weapon.
* The best way to avoid being sniped is to stay in the higher tiers until you reach your destination. As long as you have a sniper upstairs, they can clear out any of the enemy snipers you may have missed.

Chateau
Demolition
The abandoned Chateau is one of the most versatile levels. There are plenty of tight spaces allowing for good use of short-ranged weapons like the Shotgun, but at the same time, there are even more quality sniper locales. This one has a little bit for everyone. The most treacherous moments come when attempting to ascend higher, so don't be overanxious when running up stairs. If you are pinned down, a grenade does wonders. A neat shortcut is to shoot windows and then hop through the hole -- A good way to surprise an enemy inside.

Tips

* You'll want at least one sniper and one guy with a shotgun for this level.
* Get higher. There are five tiers, so you can go from basement to the very highest floor and continually gain an advantage over your foe.
* Have someone clear dedicated to clearing out snipers. Send someone up the many stairs to keep the windows clear as there are plenty of sniping spots that look onto the courtyard.

Cobble
Demolition
Cobble is an even mixture of enclosed and wide-open spaces. Generally the buildings serve as merely a pathway between open areas. The only real danger point is on the main road as there are windows and a walkway that can be used by snipers. Otherwise, this is one of the more cut and dry levels.

Tips

* A great camping ground is behind the boxes next to the bombsite.
* With the bombsite so open, Terrorists need to set up a perimeter around their demolitionist.
* It's easier to kill all Terrorists or CTs on this level than try and win by achieving the standard goal.

Corruption
Demolition
A fine name for this map as it is certain to corrupt your sense of safety. Though much of Corruption takes place outside, all of it is in very confined space. There's not as much prime sniping ground here, except over the bombsite, but there's lots of cover. Only impatient and foolish players die on this level because there are just so many places to hide. Most dangerous are the partially opened doors, which are perfect camping spots. Anytime you are near a door, use caution and listen for approaching enemies.

Tips

* Shotguns are a lovely thing on this map.
* It's always best to head through buildings than exposed areas.
* Use cover as often as possible. Let your enemies come to you in a firefight.
* Grenades are almost a must, because if your enemy takes to hiding during a firefight, a grenade is your best chance to flush them out.

Dust
Demolition
The classic map that defined Counter-Strike on the PC is back! Set in an abandoned Mid-Eastern town, Dust is almost exclusively outdoors, with large open areas. Only some crates offer cover so your biggest asset will be your own skill. Indoors things are very dark, making for a rough trip as the shadows offer great cover for enemies. The only place to avoid is the low dirt road that runs underneath the walkway. It's a death trap waiting to happen.

Tips

* Don't go alone. The map is large, but it's also wide-open making solo artists easy prey. Instead, split your group into pairs. The buddy system works, honest.
* Be careful heading through doorways and always circle around crates in a wide arc.
* Action is fast here, so the demolitionist needs extra protection and CTs need to strike the bombsite hard, fast, and with grenades.

Dust2
Demolition
Dust2 is truly a sequel to the original. This is just more of the same found in Dust 1. However, this is a superior map that offers not only a more appealing level design, but even more open territory. Get your jumping button ready, as you will need to hop up steps and quickly leap to the ground below to make up ground. There are a lot fewer partially opened doors here and dark paths making for a more open fight. A good place for a shotgun.

Tips

* Nothing has really changed from Dust 1. The only additional tip is that you can cut some corners by leaping over the sides onto the lower roads (so long as the drop isn't too steep).

Fastline
Demolition
An IGN favorite, Fastline takes place at a subway station. There's loads of brightly lit areas and not a lot of solid cover. What makes this map special is the complex air ducts you can crawl through (hold down the Left Trigger) and you can also fight it out on the subway. There are only a few open rooms, so avoid those when you can (or at least move through them quickly), as you are much better equipped to handle a fight in tighter surroundings. If you see enemies entering a large room, back out and throw a grenade, then use the doorway as cover and pick them off as they attempt to either run away or charge you.

Tips

* Avoid open spaces.
* Study the vents to see where they lead to. This is often a safe shortcut and a good way to go if you are the Terrorist with the bomb.
* Avoid the lights. There aren't many shadows, but what is there needs to be utilized.

Havana
Hostage Rescue
One of the few Hostage Rescue maps available, Havana isn't like most of the Demolition maps. There are several tiers to the mansion and while you will certainly experience some close-quarters combat, a long-range weapon is essential. A great camping spot is along the terrace the overlooks the courtyard. Not only do you have a great view of things below, but you can snipe enemies cross along the other side of the house. There are numerous stairs and holes you can drop through, making this one of the easiest levels to go from ground level to top floor in a matter of moments.

Tips

* Set up a perimeter around the hostages. One person for each entryway, one sniper to get anyone they can see from afar, and the rest surrounding the hostages.
* Stay up top. The most vulnerable spots are all on the ground floor, so avoid at all cost.
* Don't get fooled into thinking the Gazebo makes for a good camping spot -- it does not.

Italy
Hostage Rescue
This map is reminiscent of Dust, but with a European flavor. This relatively vanilla map doesn't offer a lot in terms of cover or great sniper spots, however it is a very wide open area, making long-ranged weapons the preferred choice. When you are outside, stick to the walls rather than running out in the open.

Tips

* Terrorists have it easier, because they can (and should) stay inside with the hostages. Send one guy out to hide near the entrance of the building with the hostages to give warning when the CTs are coming.
* CTs need to bust into the Terrorist house, but getting there is tricky. Stay against the buildings to limit exposure and when you get to the house, hit it hard with Flashbangs, but not explosive, because you don't want to kill the hostages.

Miami
Hostage Rescue
This is the second best of the Hostage Rescue maps. Though it shows only a little of Miami itself (when you are outside at the Rescue Zone), the office makes for a nice mazed filled with cover. Those who want to crawl can use the vent shafts and those who care to cower can hide in a stall in the toilet. It's a little something for everybody!

Tips

* Shotguns. 'Nuff said.
* There is plenty of cover. Use it.
* One trick is that, when in a firefight, back up around the corner to try and induce your enemy to charge in. When they do, blast 'em.
* If some fool tries to trick you into turning the corner, throw a Flashbang in first.

Militia
Hostage Rescue
Not only the best Hostage Rescue map, but the best map in the game in terms of size and versatility. You have a full house to explore, with doors that can swing open, plus a wide open outdoor area complete with underground tunnels. On top of all this, there are numerous sniping areas, including the roof of the Militia house. This is not a map for only a few players. You want a max crowd in here to fill the place up.

Tips

* Counter-Terrorists should definitely use the underground passengers to sneak Hostages to the Rescue Zone.
* Terrorists need to be aware of all the entry points. The key is sticking to the Hostages and not foolishly running around hunting CTs.
* You want at least one sniper in the group. Otherwise, any weapon is suitable here, though shotguns are at the bottom of the list.
* Avoid the open areas and get inside the house (or at least stay near it) unless you must travel outside.

Piranesi
Demolition
Do you love stone? Then you'll love the stone structures of Piranesi. This is a snipers haven as the bomb sites are located beneath windows that offer perfect sniping camps. As with other snipe-friendly levels, the best strategy is to have someone flush out the upper areas while a pair of buddies protect the bomb-carrier or the elected diffuser.

Tips

* Pick one sniper to get up high. They need to get above the bomb site and take out the competition that enters the area.
* Pair the sniper with someone who has a shotgun or submachine gun, as the sniper alleys are unprotected areas.
* When traveling on the lower levels, one person needs to be equipped with a rifle and chosen to spy the upper tiers for snipers.

Prodigy
Demolition
A cousin of Fastline, Prodigy takes place in another concrete jungle. A few twists have been added. For one, there are closed doors that slide open, so don't assume any gray door is safe to put your back to. You'll also spot a couple of holes in the wall. These can't be crawled through, but are perfect to use for sniping enemies across the hall with maximum protection.

Tips

* Watch the walkway. This is the most hazardous area as it's wide open and easy to get picked off from above or below.
* Use the doors. Look for the flat grey doors with no handles. Step to them and they will open. These are good shortcuts.
* Shotguns and submachine guns are perfect here. The narrow hallways work to your advantage.

Stadium
Demolition
Anyone who's attended a sporting event knows what to expect at a stadium -- lots of stairs and lines outside the bathroom. The stairs are there, but not the lines. Though this is a multi-tiered level, most of the lower levels are safe from sniper attacks. There are a few open rooms mixed with a lot of hallways, making a submachine gun or fast-shooting rifle the weapon of choice. The only room with decent cover is the cafeteria, where you should use the overturned tables to protect yourself in a firefight. Should you be on the outside looking in, toss a grenade to the center of the ring of tables to take out the max number of enemies.

Tips

* The shower room is too open and a dead end, a bad place to be caught with your pants down.
* Height helps, but keep your eyes and aim up when ascending stairs. Nothing's going to trip you on the way up, so look up at all times to spot enemies before they have a chance to clobber you.
* You can't actually get into the stadium, so don't waste your time looking for an entrance.

Tides
Demolition
Another of our favorites, Tides features several balconies and bridges overlooking multiple courtyards and roads. The result is a frantic level where the main cover is based on having higher ground. The balconies are close enough that a submachine gun can do sufficient damage -- You don't even need a sniper (though having one never hurts). The interiors should be seen as access ways rather than places to camp. The best positions are all on higher ground. Get onto a bridge, duck behind the railing, and wait for your enemy to show up below.

Tips

* Shop smart. Get a submachine gun or rifle. This isn't the place for a shotgun.
* Stay with your buddy. There are lots of places for enemies to hide and the best way to proceed is in pairs, with one person looking towards the ground and the other looking up for snipers.
* It's especially important that Terrorists circle and protect the demolitionist when they are planting the bomb (or the CT who is diffusing the bomb).

Truth
Demolition
You can't handle the Truth. The Oriental-style map has three main open rooms, but the rest is all narrow areas, making short-ranged weapons a fine choice. Sniping is not an issue and sniper rifles can be left behind. There are a couple of nifty things to look for, including some holes in the floor that will let you travel underneath the house and a couple of open vents for some crawling. When you reach the large open garden with the Big Buddah, be careful. There's little cover and access to both sides of the house from that location. It's best to wait at the door to make sure enemies aren't coming into the garden. Don't spend a lot of time there, just move on through.

Tips

* Avoid the open areas when possible.
* Don't bring a sniping rifle to this firefight.
* If you can find the hole that lets you travel underneath the house (it's near one of the insertion points), drop down and you can get a nice, safe shortcut through half the map.

Vostok
Demolition
This chilly map doesn't have too much to offer in terms of cool tricks. There are a couple of balconies for snipers, but the map is surprisingly straightforward. A fast-loading weapon is a must, because there's little cover and the action comes fast and furious. Aside from one long basement run, the majority of Vostok takes place outside. But, again, there are only a couple of sniper points to worry about.

Tips

* Move quickly. Vostok seems big, but it's easy to cover distance quickly -- That means your enemy will be able to cover ground at a decent clip.
* Snipers not included. A dedicated sniper is nice, but not vital in any way. Just have one teammate with a powerful automatic rifle and you'll be fine.

Counter-Strike::Hostage Rescue 1.5

Terrorist
Winning: Kill all Counter-Terrorists without allowing any hostages to be rescued.

Hostage Holding
Though you are a Terrorist, Hostages are a vital commodity. No one is going to meet your list of demands if all your captives are dead. For that reason, Terrorists are penalized for dead Hostages, just like Counter-Terrorists. You can't kill the Hostages, but you must kill all the CTs in order to win. The CTs main objective is the same such Hostages, so the best strategy is to get into the room with the captives before the CTs. Unfortunately, the Hostages are not marked on the radar. Should you get to the room before CT, stand behind the Hostages and fire on the door. The CTs (unless they are very stupid) will have to be careful when shooting you, because killing Hostages is a big no-no.

If you have some solid teammates, you should place two men in with the hostages and at the surrounding rooms so the moment the CTs appear, they can flank them and take them out easily.

Tips

* Use the Hostages as bait. Leave the room and hide out in surrounding rooms. When the CTs arrive, pop out and attack.
* Use Hostages as human shields. It's surprisingly effective.
* If the CTs get hold of the hostages, it's better to kill Hostages then let the CT rescue them. If it comes to it, toss a grenade into the pack.

Counter-Strike::Hostage Rescue 1.2

Counter-Terrorist
Winning: Kill all Terrorists or rescue every hostage.

Rescuing Hostages
The Counter-Terrorist has a tougher task in Hostage Rescue, as they must locate the Hostages and then lead them back to the Rescue Zone without getting them killed. Though it's easier to just hunt down the Terrorists and waste them, it's not worth as much cash. And when your job is freeing people from Terrorists, money is all that matters.

Hostages are almost always kept in rooms with few entrances. Expect Terrorists to be guarding the Hostages when you hit the room. Fire in controlled bursts, because a missed Terrorist can lead to a dead Hostage. Killing a Hostage is bad and costs you cash, so don't be trigger-happy. Step up to a Hostage and press X to tell them to follow you. Hostages are stupid, stupid cows and will not hide or attempt to avoid a gut-shot so you need to keep a vigilant eye out for Terrorists as you head to the Rescue Zone (your insertion point for this mission).

At any point you can look at a Hostage, hit X, and tell them to stay put. This is a good idea when heading into an unsafe room. To extract Hostages, your best bet is to work as a team. Go in a group to find the hostages and then form a circle around them as you travel to maximize their protection. Once you hit the Rescue Zone (noted by an R icon on the left side of the screen) drop your Hostages off. The win comes after just a few seconds.

Tips

* It's easier to kill every Terrorist than rescue the Hostages.
* Work as a team. Set one person as point. Once you have the Hostages, keep them in the center of your group, with someone tailing behind them, a person to their side, and one at point.
* Leave the hostages to clean out a room. Keep on person as a babysitter, then flush out the room ahead before continuing forward.

Counter-Strike::Hostage Rescue 1.0

There are only four maps for Hostage Rescue (though more will be coming via Xbox Live downloads), so this one may not dominate your online time. However, Hostage Rescue offers a very different gameplay aspect that makes it more challenging than Demolition. The Terrorists have some Hostages held up (the number varies depending on the amount of players in the game) and it's the Counter-Terrorists job to rescue them. The CTs must first locate the hostages and then lead them to the Rescue Zone without getting them killed. The Terrorists have but one objective -- Kill the CTs.

Counter-Strike::Demolition 1.5

Terrorist
Winning: Kill all Counter-Terrorists or successfully plant and detonate the bomb.

Planting the Bomb
Each game a Terrorist is chosen at random to be the bomb carrier. This is your most vital team member. If you have the bomb, your job is to find the detonation location (look for the red A on the ground). If you are not the bomb holder, look for the Terrorist who possesses the bomb (he'll show up red on your radar). You need to keep him safe and provide cover as he moves to the bomb site. Should he die, the bomb will drop at his feet and flash on your radar. Run and grab it.

At the site, hold down X until the meter fills completely. This sets the bomb. You have 45 seconds (default setting) before the bomb blows. Counter-Terrorists will come to the area trying to diffuse the bomb, so you need to waste them. Keep an eye on the clock. You need to keep the bomb safe, but you also need to leave the blast area before the bomb goes boom. So long as there are no Counter-Terrorists on screen, feel free to flee with 15 seconds left on the clock. Get as far away as you can. By that point, even if a CT gets to the bomb, they won't have time to diffuse it.

If a fellow Terrorist plants the bomb, your job is to provide them cover and then guard the bomb until only 15 seconds remains on the clock's countdown.

Tips

* Have at least two people with the bomber. One need to guard him as he sets the bomb and one needs to play spy to warn when the enemy is coming. If you have an extra person, set them up as a sniper.
* Sometimes it's a good idea to let a lone CT go to dismantle the bomb. He'll be unarmed as he does and easy pickings to sneak up on and kill.
* Communicate. If you have the bomb and are about to die, tell your teammates where you are (give them landmarks) and how many enemies are attacking. This way your buddies can pick up where you left off.

Counter-Strike::Demolition 1.3

Counter-Terrorist
Winning: Kill all Terrorists or diffuse the bomb once it's been planted by Terrorists.

Diffusing the Bomb
One Terrorist will be carrying the bomb, but is impossible to identify who it might be. However, once that Terrorist has set the bomb, you'll be notified. It's now time to get to the bomb and diffuse it. The default timers is 45 seconds, but this can be changed in the options, so make certain you know how much time you have to stop the bomb from going boom.

Finding the bomb is the toughest aspect of Demolition, because the bomb doesn't appear on the radar if you are a Counter-Terrorist. In fact, neither do your enemies. If you have Bots on your team, follow them, as they almost always head towards the bomb. Otherwise, it's just a matter of memorizing the drop zone for the bomb. Look for the red circle to indicate the general zone, then scope the ground for the bomb.

Once the bomb is found, hold down X. A meter appears. Keep holding X until it is full or else the bomb will not be diffused. If you have the Bomb Diffuse-Kit, this takes about half the time. Should you see one of your allies already at the bomb, provide them cover, as Terrorists often guard the area.

Tips

* Always purchase the Bomb Difuse-Kit if you have any spare cash. Always.
* Once the bomb is set, you must deactivate it to win -- Even if you kill every Terrorist.
* Head to the bomb as a group, with one person designated as diffuser. The others need to form a perimeter around him to give him time to do his business.

Counter-Strike::Demolition 1.0

Demolition

Demolition is the predominant game type for Counter-Strike. Considering that 14 of the 18 maps included are for Demolition, it's clear that this is going to be the game mode owning your time. Demolition is fairly simple. The Terrorists want to bomb a specific area of the map, the Counter-Terrorists want to stop them. The main conflict, however, is not the placement of the bomb, but taking down the enemy. Demolition tends to be more of a slugfest than Hostage Rescue, so lock and load gentlemen.

Counter-Strike::Basics 3.0

Navigation
So where are these magical bomb locations in Demolition? The Demolition maps are easy to navigate. There are two points, A and B. Each has a red location marker. To find your way from one point to the next, follow the signs tagged on just about every other wall. The arrows will lead you to your destination.

Tips

* Work as a team. Spreading out and running about like fools doesn't mean you won't win, but it sure makes it tougher. Though this is the Blitz version of Rainbow Six, teamwork is still necessary to beat better opponents.
* Know your role. If you are the team's sniper, don't run through the streets looking for trouble. And if you are the Terrorist with the bomb, stick with your buddy and head to the bombsite. Know your roles and follow through.
* Study your maps. The single-player is a great place to learn the maps. Play against bots and find out which weapons you like and the sweet spots on each map. All of this without damaging your online ranking!
* Don't reload during a firefight. Reloading even the quickest of weapons during a firefight is just plain stupid. If you have no cover and you run out of bullets, hit Y to switch to your pistol and shoot it up until it's safe to reload.
* Use your grenades wisely. You can't carry much, so don't throw grenades like they're rocks. An explosive is only useful if it's gonna damage someone. To stun or form enemies out of hiding, use Smoke Grenades and Flashbangs.
* Don't kill your buddies. It's bad karma and, frankly, there are enough jerks in the world.

Counter-Strike::Basics 2.8

Scoring
There are only a few ways to earn cash. You can kill enemies, complete parameters of your goal, or win the match. In Hostage Rescue, both Counter-Terrorists and Terrorists lose points of killing hostages. You also lose cash for killing friendlies. Otherwise, everything you do in C-S leads to positive gains.

All
Action Reward
Kill an enemy $300
Kill all enemies $3000 (Hostage Rescue)
$3200 (Demolition)

Counter-Terrorist Only
Action Reward
Contact a hostage $150
Rescue a hostage $1000
Rescue all hostages $2500
Defuse bomb $3250

Terrorist Only
Action Reward
Stop hostage rescue $2000
Detonate a bomb $3500

As you can see, it pays a little bit more to complete the mission objective than kill all enemies. To maximize your cash, you'd need to kill all but one enemy and then complete the mission. Good luck keeping your pals from offing the final guy. If you can work together, you can work the system for the max cash.

Counter-Strike::Basics 2.7

Winning is Everything
There are two ways to win a game of Counter-Strike. Your team can eliminate every opponent or you can complete the mission goal (see above). Either way, winning earns you bonus cash (as does killing enemies), which can be spent on items during the next match (or in the middle of your current game if you run back to the Shopping Zone).

Counter-Strike::Basics 2.6

Game Types
There are two types of games in Counter-Strike: Demolition and Hostage Rescue. In each game you will play as either a Terrorist or a Counter-Terrorist. As the names suggest, the two teams have opposite goals. Whichever side you find yourself on, the stakes are high and most games end quickly. Only fast reactions and accurate fire can help you prevail.

Demolition sees the Terrorists attempting to set and detonate a bomb in a strategic location, with the Counter-Terrorists trying to stop them.

Hostage Rescue begins with several hostages stashed away in an unknown locale. The Terrorists want to keep the hostages, the Counter-Terrorists must find them and lead them to the extraction point. Neither benefits from a dead hostage.

For more info on the two games, see the individual sections of this guide.

Equipment

Bomb Difuse-Kit
$200
Essential in any Demolitions game, the Bomb Difuse-Kit significantly cuts down the time it takes to difuse a bomb. and, of course, time is always of the essence.

Kevlar
$650
Don't walk into the line of fire without it. Armor is like buying a second full health bar. It will keep you alive and is more important than a bigger gun.

K&H
$1000
A step up, the Kevlar vest and helmet offers even more protection, including extra safety against explosions. A better choice than regular Kevlar if you have the cash.

Smoke Grenade
$300
Obscures enemy vision. This is good for, well, never. The other grenade types are much more useful. You have no thermal or night vision, so the smoke also obscures your view of the enemy. Don't use it.

Flashbang Grenade
$200
A lovely tool that temporarily blinds and deafens enemies -- even human players! Perfect to throw into a group of enemies before running in with guns blazing.

High-Explosive Grenade
$300
You want a big kaboom? You got it with the old standby. The best grenade in the game, this will flush out enemies or take out a large grouping with ease. These grenade have no bounce to them, so they will blow where you throw.

Knife

Every operative also comes equipped with a knife. Those who want to show their true skill can disregard their other weapons and go for stealth kills. Up close a knife can be very deadly and the alternate fire allows for a deep stab. The only problem is getting up close. However, if you use the Quiet Walk ability (click in on the Left Thumbstick) you can go sneaky-sneaky on some fools.

Counter-Strike::Basics 2.0

The world's most popular online PC game has finally come to Xbox. Featuring the same addictive gameplay as its PC counterpart, Counter-Strike looks to dominate all of your free time. Since you're going to be spending the better part of the next few years of your life playing C-S, you might as well hit the online arena fully prepped for battle. Inside you'll find:

* Basic Training: Everything you need to know before heading into the field of battle.
* Demolition: Tips and tricks for playing Demolition, whether you are a Terrorist or a Counter-Terrorist.
* Hostage Rescue: Want to ensure all hostages are rescued? We've got you covered. And hey, if you are playing a terrorist, we teach you how to keep those hostages under wraps.
* Map Tips: Useful help for each map, including camping spots and game strategies.
* Secrets: Cheats and tricks to help give you the edge over your opponent.

Counter-Strike pits two sides against one another -- Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. Unlike most FPS', which feature both campaign and multiplayer modes, Counter-Strike eschews the norm, providing no campaign. There is a single-player component, which lets you battle against bots by your lonesome, but it functions the same way as multiplayer. Therefore, you'll find no walkthrough in this guide, but instead all the tips you need to master the two modes of play whether you are a Terrorist or a Counter-terrorist.

There's a big difference between understanding and mastering the gameplay modes and maps of Counter-Strike, but before you can run (and kill, kill, kill) you must learn to walk. This section will teach you the baby steps on the road to online dominance.

Shopping Spree
One thing that sets Counter-Strike apart from other games is the ability to purchase ammo, weapons, armor, and other equipment at the start of each mission. Depending on the difficulty setting, each game has a limited "freeze" time, where no one can act. At this time you are free to spend your cash. Once the time is over, the battle begins, but you can continue to spend money. However, you are missing out on the action every second you are sitting around doing nothing.

Use the Left Thumbstick to highlight any section of the menu and then hit A to enter the weapons listing. Another radial menu appears. You can cycle through to see the stats on each gun, but reading these things takes time. Instead, study the weapons layout listed below and figure out which items you want before the game begins. Any item you can afford will be highlighted on the menu.

If, during the game, you need some more ammo, armor, or want a better weapon, you can return to your insertion point. A shopping icon appears on the left side of the screen, letting you know you're in the K-Mart zone. Click down on the Left Thumbstick to bring up the shopping menu.

It's important to equip yourself quickly. Hitting the Left and Right triggers purchase your Secondary and Primary Ammo respectively. The best way to purchase on the fly is knowing what you want and memorizing the location. There aren't too many items, so it shouldn't be too tough. Go into a single-player game and spend some time scoping out where your choice selections are located, so that when you are in the midst of a real game you can select them quickly.

Counter-Strike::Basics 1.2

Communication is Key: Their are a few aspects to a team that makes the team strong on the Counter-Terrorist side of a match or scrim. One of these keys is good, efficient communication. One important part of this is making efficient and specific calls over ventrilo. You want to try to call the number of enemies, guns used by the enemies, and specific locations of the enemies with as little words as possible. One huge mistake I have seen is a team member calling "ALL B! ALL B!" when only 4 where in B. This can be a big mistake because one of your teammates may try to flank and not be looking out for a Terrorists who was waiting in a great spot for your teammate to flank. Also, your team should decide on specific names to call certain places and hiding spots around the map. This will help the whole team to know exactly where the enemies are when one of your teammates makes a call. Another thing that can be helpful is to call out flashes, smokes and the HE nades thrown by the enemy. This is another way to let your teammates know what is going on in your side of the map. One more thing is to cut the unnecessary talking on the mic. Try to refrain from talking about non-cs things in a serious scrim/match, and try to refrain from letting your whole team know how pissed you are every time you die. Lastly, let your teammates know when you are falling back, when you need backup, and when certain choke points have been compromised.

*Solid Teamwork and rotations: The other major key to having a good CT side is great teamwork and good rotations. This teamwork is based a lot on good communication, however. Good calls will allow your teammates to make good decisions on when to rotate and how fast. You want to rotate fast when you know the enemy is coming to a certain bombsite or choke point. You want to try to meet them before they can even get into the site and plant. This is not always possible though. In cases where you can't help your teammates in time, you want to wait for the rest of your teammates to get into position to re-take the bombsite instead of trying to take the bombsite back one by one. Your in game leader can help out with this by trying to get everyone coordinated and grouped up. After you are all ready to go, you should flash the bombsite and all try to retake the bombsite at the same time.

*Using HEs, flashes, and smoke grenades: All of these nades can have big advantages if used correctly. Using a flash is pretty easy, you want to use it to prevent rushes and to delay the other team while you wait for help from your teammates to help. Be careful, however, not to use your flashes wastefully. Good teams will try to delay their strats and get you to use up your flashes. This will leave them with a bunch of flashes and you with none. The HE, as a CT, is often misused. A lot of players try to use it to get kills. You should use the HE to suppress the Terrorists. This will give you another nade to hold of the Terrorists when they make their move and also buy you a few seconds for your teammates to rotate and help. An exception to this is that I have seen many top teams use the HE to secure a vital choke point. An example of this is a two player nade stack on the long A doors on dust2 right at the start of the round. Lastly, the most underappreciated nade on the CT side is the smoke grenade. The smoke grenade can be very usefull when you are trying to guard a small choke point for several reasons. The first reason is because the smoke may force the Terrorists to waste flashes because they are afraid of what is on the other side of the smoke. The second, and most important reason to use a smoke is because you can see the Terrorist in the smoke before they can see you. A good example of this is the back alley or Ivy part of de_train. If you use a smoke in the little alley, you will see a part of them when they are still lost in smoke.

*Know when to push: For the most part, you are going to want to stay back and guard the bombsites and choke points as a Counter-Terrorist. However, their are good times to push as well. A good flank can win you a round. Knowing when to push relies on two things: 1) How the other team is playing, and 2) communication. A few good times to push would be when the Terrorists are consistenly avoiding your choke point/bombsite or when you know where most of the enemies are. For example, if 4 of the enemies are rushing the other bombsite, it may be a good idea to try to push behind them and catch them off guard. When pushing, be very careful to check all the corners and good camping spots. You will most likely want to use a flash to help clear the choke point you are pushing threw as well.

*Setup Crossfires when possible: This something that can be really helpful if you are able to do it. It is only possible to use on certain maps and certain choke points. However, when used, it forces the Terrorists to check two complete different directions in order to clear a choke point. One good example of this is having two CTs going to long A with one in the pit and one between the pit and the car.

*Knowing when to Save guns and getting exit kills: Your team is not going to win every round, but their are a few things you can do that will help you win the following round. One of these things is knowing when to save your guns and when the round is unwinnable. Their are certain situations like a 2v5 with the bomb planted in which you have very little chance of winning. In this situation, it is statistically better to save the guns then to try to take the site back and lose both of your guns. By saving, you will have 2 guns and will be much more likely not to have to save. This is something that needs to be judged by your in game leader on a situational basis, but it is important that everyone is on the same page. You don't want 1 guy trying to take back a site and 1 guy saving. Also, when saving, it is a good idea to try to stay at a really save distance and to try to get some easy shots on Terrorists leaving the bombsite. Be careful not to lose your guns when doing this though. I will use another example from Dust2. A good idea, if you had an AWP and the bomb was planted at B, would be to sit in T spawn and wait for the Terrorist to try to exit from B tunnels. You will have an easy shot from their and also have an easy way to retreat if the Terrorists get to close.

Counter-Strike::Basics 1.1

*Improve Your aim with DeathMatch: Get into and play in deathmatch servers often. I would recommend doing this multiple times a week with all the weapons you would use in competitive play. I would concentrate on the AK, M4, AWP, deagle, USP, and glock. However, if you have some time, it is not a bad idea to work on your MP5, TMP, SCOUT, and maybe even the Shotgun.

*Scrim often: This is obvious and the best way to improve as a team. Work on your teamwork, communication, and execution of strats.

*Learn the maps: Knowing the maps can give you a huge advantage over the other team. Know the angles and the timing to choke points. Also, try to find creative ways to flash and smoke certain parts of the map. By knowing the maps, you will also know where some good places to hide are and where some the Counter-Terrorist might be hiding as well.

*Learn the money system: Knowing or suspecting when the other team has to save or eco could help your team avoid losing a round in which the other team has only pistols.

*Buy as a team, save as a team: You don't want to have 3 guys on your team with pistols and the other 2 with M4s. Coordinate so you can all buy at the same time, save at the same time, or deagle save at the same time.

*Crush the other teams economy: Their are a few things you can do that can help you win the money battle. Obviously, winning rounds is the best way to do this. However, you can even do some damage to the other teams economy or help your own teams economy with the things you do in a losing round. One thing you can do is to save your weapons when you know you can't win the round. A good example of this is when it is a 2V5 situation and their is no way the 2 alive on your team can win the round. It is better to have them save their guns then to try to win and end up only killing 2 of the Terrorists. If they live, the next round they will have guns, and may also be able to drop a weapon for another one of your team members. Also, to go along with this, these two guys can try to get an easy kill before saving their guns. The key is "easy kill". They don't want to put themselves in a situation in which they good easily die. A good example of this is when the Terrorists plant the bomb with 5 members left and only a few members left on your team. Your remaining players can wait for the Terrorists to try to exit the site and then get an easy kill on one or a few of them. On the other side of this, if you are winning a round, you want to try to win the round with as little deaths as possible. If you have a huge advantage like a 5V2, expect the other team to be saving or trying to get easy kills on your team. Try to exit a site with the bomb planted together to avoid deaths.

Counter-Strike::Know your weapons

Know your weapons strength, weaknesses, and most of all how much ammo is in it. You should always be using the right weapon for the right scenario. For example you wouldn’t want to go into close quarters combat with a sniper rifle. So, you should switch to your pistols. Vice versa once you made it out of a close quarter’s area and your out in a wide open space switch back to your sniper rifle.

Also make sure your backup weapons are loaded and they are binded in case you need to quickly switch back to them.

Never Spray and Pray’ (Accuracy will keep you alive)

One of the most common mistakes that newbie’s will make is holding down the fire button. Holding down the fire button with automatic weapons will greatly reduce the player’s accuracy. In fact if they hold down the button too long they will hit anything but their target. Usually firing one to three rounds at a time is best.

Counter-Strike::Stay with your teammates

Never try to go off and play Rambo. Stay with friends and use team work to take out the enemy and stay alive. Think of this many real world tactics and strategies use team work. For example house clearing. Wouldn’t it be easier to have three players with you before you go through a door way while one teammate covers your back another watches the overhead area. And another throws a flash bang into the room. You are unlikely to be shot from behind, the enemy can’t rush out and kill you, and finally you never have to let your guard down not having a weapon ready since you are throwing a flash bang.

You might not get great support like this scenario in a pub server. You can still get one or two teammates to help you though. You will have to have your mic and good voice commands you are likely to coerce team members to cover your back and throw in a flash bang for you.

Counter-Strike::Use communication

IF you are going to excel in clan matches you’re going to have to use team strategies. To use any strategies or tactics you will need to communicate. So, you should bind essential radio commands that will help you communicate with your teammates. You can also get a decent mic and talk to your teammates. Just make sure all talk is not on obviously. Some players will even bind aliases to give text messages.

Counter-Strike::Use your radar

Radar is perhaps the most blown off or unused tool in Counter Strike.
Radar is essential and there is no excuse for opening up on your teammates and friendly fire deaths.

Radar- Is the green circle icon on your screen that helps you know your location and your surroundings

Here are five important icons to remember

-A red dot represents the VIP (Only seen by CT’s on as_maps/bomb carrier is only seen by the T’s on de_maps
-A T shape represents a teammate a level above you.
-An upside down T shape represents a Team member a level below you.
-A yellow square represents a Teammate using the Radio

Use communication

IF you are going to excel in clan matches you’re going to have to use team strategies. To use any strategies or tactics you will need to communicate. So, you should bind essential radio commands that will help you communicate with your teammates. You can also get a decent mic and talk to your teammates. Just make sure all talk is not on obviously. Some players will even bind aliases to give text messages.

Counter-Strike::Know your location and surroundings

Know where you are, your teammates, and where enemies are likely to be. You should always take a quick check to how many players are still alive too. Plus if you see that a member on your team just died and you know he was in a location ahead of you. You know that the enemy is in that location now.

Keeping the enemy guessing where you are at is crucial. Keep quiet and be prepared. If the enemy knows your location after a firefight you should move out of that area. If you have been spotted or it is too late keep your self moving in a way that you are unlikely to be hit by the enemy. Use quick strafing techniques while you take shots at the enemy. Popular techniques to make your self a hard target include the following.

Strafe and zigzag towards your enemy to take him out. Do it quickly so other teammates do not come to assist him or get to your location in time to help him.

Jump up and down to avoid being shot in the head. Players are used to changing their aim more horizontally than a drastic vertical change. Note: you can only do this now and then for a short time when you cannot avoid taking fire from the enemy. This is great if you have an AWP because jumping will not affect your aim.

Lure the enemy into an ambush. Run towards your teammates and get in position to take out the enemy that is chasing after you. This is great if you have low health and ammo.

Shoot then ambush: fire a few shots in the enemies’ general direction run back and take cover. While the enemy is searching for you take him out with a few shots. The great thing about this technique is the enemy is usually out in the open, they don’t know where you are, and you know exactly where they are at. Plus after you kill them they will feel a little stupid.

Counter-Strike::Use stealth

Stealth is extremely important. Remember noise gives you away! Walking over grates, rooftops is especially loud, and don’t forget climbing ladders.

Use a M4 or usp with a silencer

Use a silenced weapon so you won’t give away your location. If you are a T this is even better; because the CT’s will not expect a sneaky T with a silenced M4a that he has acquired. Also it’s optimal to take out the enemy and not give away your exact location to the enemies.

Step Silent

Use the side of walls to walk along to slow your speed slightly and silence your steps. Even better you can crouch and use the walk key to slow and silence your steps.

Going up and down ladders

You can actually crouch while going down a ladder; and guess what you will make no noise at all. Going up or down a ladder you should walk into the wall while on the ladder. Make sure you only to move your mouse a tiny bit to ensure you go up or down. This way you can stay silent.

You can use stealth and still be offensive. You should practice stalking enemies by using your radar, listen for footsteps, all while keeping quiet and hidden yourself. Coming up on an unaware enemy at close range is an easy kill.

Stay in inconspicuous low lighted areas of the map. There is nothing wrong with hiding if you are low on health. Try this and you will be surprised at the number of players that will fly right by you.

Counter-Strike 1.6 AWP guide

This is an awp guide,which would tell us about some skills and some advanced shots in AWP.
For the best use of AWP the following three skill are required :-

1)Drag
2)Reaction
3)Good Aim which is required for all guns though

Drag - Some times when v zoom n camp,the person my not pass through the crosshair and move way from our pointer.In such situation DRAG is used.In simple words,Drag means taking the crosshair over ur opponent.Then obviously shoot.

Reaction - It means how fast ur hand racts to the stimuli of ur Eyes.In other words it refers to the speed by which ur hand n eyes co ordinate n kill ur enemy.

Unzoom - Unzoom magging is quite helpful.But it requires a lot of practise.I can tell u all a tip to use it.The moment u shoot unzoomed wid AWP quickly switch 2 sm other weapon.It will help.Try n see

Quickzoom - Quickzoom is really very helpful but it needs too much of practise.Quickzoom can be performed by using Right Mouse Button and Left Mouse Button together.Practising this would really improve and if 1ce u get hold of quickzoom u can mag a way better.

Flick Shot - This is one of my favoutite shots coz i know only dis 1 perfectly. Flick shot is a very important part of magging.You can kill ur opponent even if ur crosshair is a way far from him.This shots need drag.Drag n zoom 2geder n u can c d result.I cant explain this shot much because its totally on ur skills.If u learn all dese things u r a realy god magger

Have Fun and try all these
